Procon Inc. selected Needham DBS as their Design/Build partner for this 115,000 sf tea production facility. These are the first Tilt-Up panels lifted in Franklin County Virginia. The facility’s challenges include shifted column placements to meet the owner’s processes, long mezzanine cantilevers, and consideration for future additions. A tight schedule was not a problem with Needham DBS having steel shop drawings and Tilt-Up panel books completed before the final construction drawings could be issued. This empowered the construction team to have the shell and mezzanine fully erected and cast 18 weeks from the date final construction drawings were sealed. This conventional system is the perfect choice for this site and the needs of the owner with the hardwall construction and open spans. Design flexibility was key to this project’s success. Needham DBS supplied 406 tons of structural steel, joists, and deck to make this project possible.
