Needham DBS was selected by Conco Construction to provide structural steel engineering, detailing, and supply structural steel framing for this 56,500sf aircraft hangar expansion. Needham DBS worked alongside the EOR and PEMB cladding supplier to design a two-way clear span solution that was not possible with other traditional PEMB design methods.

Needham DBS used a lateral truss frame system in both directions, with 85-foot long box trusses spanning over hangar doors, and custom trusses to achieve the 125-foot clear span. Needham DBS worked closely with the steel erector to ensure erection stability was properly addressed and created several custom details to support the erection process.

The structure was modeled using SDS/2, with connection design also performed within the BIM. Pre-erection coordination with the contractor and erector were centered around 3D model review to visualize critical picks and assist with sequencing.
