Karen S. Hand, Needham DBS, Appointed to ACI Committee 551

Karen S. Hand, Needham DBS, was recently appointed to the ACI Committee 551, Tilt-Up Concrete Construction.

Karen has 18 years of tilt-up design and detailing experience.  She has worked on several award winning tilt-up projects including EPA Region VII Science and Technology Center, Zona Rosa Blackford Building, Warren Theatre, among others.  Karen frequently gives tilt-up related presentations to architects, engineers and contractors for organizations such as ACI, TCA, AIA and CPG.  If you would like to find out more about tilt-up construction or would like to request an educational seminar, contact Karen via our contact form.

ACI 551 Committee Mission:

Develop and advance tilt-up concrete design and construction; establish and maintain technical documents; and advocate for research and innovation.

Goals:

  1. Develop updates for Design Guide for Tilt-Up Concrete Panels and Tilt-Up Concrete Construction Guide;
  2. Monitor and suggest updates on tilt-up information for specifications (ACI 301) and tolerances (ACI 117); and
  3. Work with Tilt-Up Concrete Association to develop design examples and educational seminars.
